Home in Mumbai for Christmas

Home in Mumbai for Christmas

Drove back from Vadodara yesterday evening with Padmaja who was visiting me in Vadodara. Long drive, but have become used to it now. The highway is fantastic and though traffic is heavy, the drive itself is smooth and if you know how you don’t have to weave in and out of the truck traffic. It took me a couple of times up down between Mumbai and Vadodara to learn that and now I simply stay in the right lane instead…

The kids have never visited Delhi and I have big plans to show them around – Red Fort, Humayun’s Tomb, Rajpath, India Gate, Jantan Mantar, Rastrapati Bhavan, Lotus Temple etc. And of course the many restaurants, shops and road side eateries. We plan to visit Agra to see the Taj…

Mumbai – The Mercedes and the Autorickshaw

Mumbai – The Mercedes and the Autorickshaw

I am in an autorickshaw heading to the International Airport to catch an Emirates Airlines flight to Dubai. On the Western Express Highway I noticed a mercedes bearing the Emirates logo beside my auto. I peeked in and saw a Lady and a Gentleman in uniform – presumably our pilots. I thought no more about it till I saw the car again just before us at a traffic signal. I had lost sight of it before but I kept track…

Gangtok, April 21, 2009 – Day 10 – Bhubaneswar in the Summer of ’09

Vacations – Gangtok, April 2009 – Day 9 We arrived in Bhubaneswar early yesterday morning by Howrah Puri Express from Kolkata. This was the shortest rail journey of our entire trip this summer and the only one on which we had a coupe to ourselves. All of us were thrilled with that and also lamented the  lack on our other, longer journeys. Bhubaneswar is hotter than I can tolerate. I am running up my father’s air conditioning bill. He has…
