Test of Publishing from my BlackBerry

Test of Publishing from my BlackBerry

Hello World! The traditional greeting of the geek trying out a new way of expressing themselves. I have found a BlackBerry app that supports WordPress. The app recognised my blog settings based on the URL and my login credentials, imported all settings including my existing categories. This is my first post from my BlackBerry using the new app. Hello World! http://blackberry.wordpress.com

Lightbox 2 with Auto-Resize in WordPress

Lightbox 2 with Auto-Resize in WordPress

I finally found a solution to my WordPress woes with large images and my attempts to use Lightbox 2 by Lokesh Dhakar. Many thanks to Hannes Schmiderer for showing me the way and for sharing the code that he hacked together from other sources. Please check out his blog and the many interesting articles he has there. This fix is not yet implemented in this blog (http://whatho.satpathy.org) but will be shortly. I have it working on my children’s web site,…

w.bloggar US English Spell Check Does Not Recognize June!

w.bloggar US English Spell Check Does Not Recognize June!

w.bloggar is a blog client and works very well. I have used it for about 2 weeks now and I think I will continue to use it for this blog. The editor is not WYSIWYG and exposes the HTML code but otherwise it is easy to use. At least for the kind of blog posts I normally make. When I was writing the previous post on Reliance Mutual Fund’s web site, I ran the w.bloggar spell check To my surprise…

BlogJet – Blogging Client

BlogJet – Blogging Client

The two previous posts were made with BlogJet. I am trying to find the perfect blog client to manage this blog and have looked at three products so far. Zoundry Raven w.bloggar BlogJet So far BlogJet looks the most promising. I post a lot of images and good image management support, particularly auto generation of thumbnails and uploading without FTP, is a very big deal. The downside is the price 🙁 I haven’t played with w.bloggar much yet. The editor…

Zoundry Raven

Zoundry Raven

I came across Zoundry Raven a couple of months ago but hadn’t had the time to download and use it. The web site looked promising and features listed were just what I was looking for. I downloaded the installer today and have just finished configuring it to blog to this blog. One of the features I have wanted for some time is a good WYSIWYG editor in a light weight package. Advanced table & image handling, with fine control over…

Test of blog by email from mobile

Test of blog by email from mobile

This is the second test of the blog by email feature I just configured. This email is being sent from my mobile phone, a Sony Ericsson P1i. I am using the built in email client which does not support HTML emails. I have attached a big image. This email should end up using the Postie plugin. Lets see what happens this time. Update: Paragraphs run together. Try giving two empty lines in the email? Categories didn’t work at all. I…

Testing Blog-By-Email

Testing Blog-By-Email

Hello! Hello! Hello! Earth Calling… Does post by email work? Did I get all the settings right? That’s a big question because I have read only half way through the manual 🙂 Let’s see what WordPress does with this href=”http://codex.wordpress.org/Blog_by_Email”>email-to-post thingy. Update: Makes a mess of it! The formatting is off rather bad. The one hyper link I put in was massacred. I am leaving the post as is to demonstrate how the blog by email feature works out-of-the-box. I…

New Personal Photo Gallery with Coppermine

New Personal Photo Gallery with Coppermine

I completed the installation of a new personal image gallery using Coppermine. Took me all the weekend to get things up and running as I wanted. I ended up using the same theme as my other web sites, Mamli & Bablu and Gautam. Do visit and comment. Copermine is easy to use. Installation was straight forward and I was quickly able to figure out how to use Coppermine without too much trouble. I am also using ImageMagick to watermark all…

Redirect System.out.println() to Log4J

Redirect System.out.println() to Log4J

A couple of days ago I was struggling with a 3rd party API. Didn’t have access to the source code and the library was dumping out debug messages to the console via System.out.println(). I prefer Log4J and I was having a hard time figuring out which message from my logs corresponded to messages from the 3rd party API. Anyway, I ended up writing a small Java class to redirect all SOP output to my Log4J setup. Works like a charm…
