Books…

Books!   My earliest memories are of my Grandmother telling us stories after dinner. She loves to read – in fact she reads in 4 languages, Odiya, Bengali, Hindi & English. Puts me to shame for I can read in only one – English. Have almost forgotten how to read my own mother tongue – Odiya though I gave my matriculation exam in Odiya as my second language.   Be that as it may, I owe my love of reading…

Bablu’s Sunday Breakfast

Bablu’s Sunday Breakfast

Today I enjoyed the very best breakfast I have ever had – prepared by my son, 12 year old Bablu. Yesterday night before I went to bed my 12 year old son, Jyotiraditya aka., Bablu, made me promise that after 7.30 am the next morning, I would stay away from the kitchen area. I wasn’t very sure why and he wouldn’t tell me so I agreed. This morning I was unceremoniously evicted from my study area near the kitchen and dumped…

Making Tea for Padmaja

Making Tea for Padmaja

Every now and then Padmaja would want the morning cuppa from my hands. Tea, with milk but no sugar, is a morning ritual on holidays & weekends when the kids would sleep late. On school days we have our tea together after the kids have left. Today, she wanted me to make the tea and I did.  Also, showed her – yet again – how to use the wireless Jam Speaker to listen to music on her phone. Wives! I…

Together

Together

Together we shall stand tall. We shall not bend to any adversity, to one or to all of us. We shall love & live together. – Satpathy Family To me the word “together” has a rather special meaning. It is a strange word. I wonder who coined it. Ah. The special meaning – well I really cannot define it clinically or express it very well but I will try. Together is about not being alone. About the sound of voices…

Rakhi, August 20, 2013

Rakhi, August 20, 2013

Rakhi! That time of year again when sisters tie a thread on their brother’s wrist, a sign of their affection and love, and of the bond that ties sisters and brothers together through life. These photos were taken on Rakhi (August 20, 2013) at our home in Juhu, Mumbai. In it our daughter, Mamli, prays for her younger brother, Bablu and ties her Rakhi on his wrist. She also performs the same for her sisters-in-absentia – Meghu & Chikoo, my…

Bablu’s Special Assembly on Anger, R. N. Podar School, Mumbai

Bablu’s Special Assembly on Anger, R. N. Podar School, Mumbai

Jyotiraditya, our 9 year old son, participated in a “Special Assembly” at his school today. The teachers and students of R. N. Podar school pick a topic, script it, practice and present the script in front of parents who are invited to attend. Today’s topic was “Anger”. Very nicely done, with great scripting and a fantastic performance from the children. The teachers design the program such that each and every child gets to play a part, however small. The choreography…

Bhitara Kanika, Odisha, March 2013

My father-in-law, Sudhakar Padhi, organized a 2 day visit to the Bhitara Kanika forest reserve in Odisha in mid March 2013. I had to return early to travel to Nanjing and could not make it but the rest of the family all went. These photos were taken on the old Canon Powershot during that visit.

Bhubaneswar Vacation – March 2013

Bhubaneswar Vacation – March 2013

We visited our parents & grandparents in the 2nd week of March, 2013. We also went to Cuttack to visit my maternal grandmother and uncle. We also visited the Lord Jaganath in Puri and I was lucky to get darshan early in the morning right after sun rise. On the way back from Puri we stopped at Sathpada on the northern most tip of Chilika lake to go see Dolphins. I had to cut my vacation short to travel to…
