The Desire for a Better Life

The Desire for a Better Life

The desire for a better life for our children is a powerful motivation for all of us, regardless of our status in life. For the poor and marginalised, it is Hope. That our children will not endure what we did. That our children will be able to help their children do homework without having to generate their own electricity. This photograph speaks so many things to me. Of Hope. Of perseverance. Of innovation in a land where the Government has consistently…

Jai Hind!

Jai Hind!

To a kind Hearted Christian Friend… Gods – Jai Hind! Thank you for that message on WhatsApp from the US Army. I will not send it on because it is not from the Indian Army – the army because of which we sleep peacefully in our bed while they die on Siachen and other battlefields. Jai Hind! I am still upset about losing the lone survivor of that Avalanche in Siachen. What a waste! Jai Hind! May our nation of…

Shame: Middle class India duping domestic help of Rs 18,000 cr every yr

http://www.firstpost.com/blogs/-1156783.html Jay Mazoomdaar makes an interesting point but his assumptions or lack thereoff, create a few problems. First of all he clubs together some 300 million Indians into a single category called “middleclass” and does not mention or take into account financial disparities in this group, which includes people earning anything from a few tens of thousands per month to people earning in lacs (hundred thousand) per month. How does somebody earning say 25,000 per month pay for domestic help…

Tolerating Nutcases like Asaram Bapu

Tolerating Nutcases like Asaram Bapu

I heard about yet another nutcase today. This one is called Asaram Bapu and he goes around calling himself a “Godman”, which is “polite speak” for conman, thug and all manner of dirt. This chappie seems to have a good long history of wrong doing, thereby proving that not only is he a nutcase conman but also much more foolish than the average conman. This chappie has the temerity to say that the poor girl who was gang raped and murdered…

Ganapatipule Vacation – Nov 2012

Ganapatipule Vacation – Nov 2012

We visited Ganapatipule, a temple town and beach resort on the Konkan coast of Maharastra. Ganapatipule is located about 350 km south of Mumbai in the Ratnagiri district famous for it’s “Apus” mangos (Alphanso). The Lord Ganesh of Ganapatipule is the “Paschim Dwardevta”, Western Sentinel God of India. The temple is built into a hill right on the beach and is beautiful. We had booked a room in the MTDC resort on the Maharastra Tourism web site the previous week….
